Hopewell UMC plans social networking class

Hopewell United Methodist Church will host a free Social Networking class, open to the entire community, on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Although there is no fee for the class, everyone planning to attend is asked to register.

Det. Adam Castings will teach the class. Castings is a detective with the Tyrone Police Department and is also attached to the GBI internet predator task force.

The class will focus on safety and security issues using social networking websites such as MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook. Castings will offer instruction on how to use these sites and explain some of the dangers associated with using them.

Specific information will be presented regarding teens/pre-teens and online predators, photo posting, privacy issues, and parental safety controls.

Send registration requests to kaarin@hopewell-umc.org. Space is limited and early registration is suggested.

The class will be held at Hopewell UMC, 351 Jenkins Rd., in Tyrone, directly across from Sandy Creek High. For more information contact the church, 770-306-7537.
