Senoia changes fishing rules, mayor pro tem arrangement

It may not have been the most action-filled meeting, but the Senoia City Council on Jan. 9 took care of business relating to the fishing ordinance and adjusted the length of service of the mayor pro tem.

The council made an adjustment to the ordinance governing fishing at Marimac Lakes Park. The previous ordinance permitted fishing from May through September but council members voted to have the lake open for fishing throughout the year.

Other stipulations in the ordinance require a fishing license for those over age 16, a catch-and-release policy and the requirement that children under age 16 be accompanied by an adult. There will be no charge for fishing by city residents though non-residents will be required to pay a fee.

Mayor Robert Belisle made a proposal that the mayor pro tem serve on a rotating basis that changes every eight months and that Councilman Bobby Graham be the first to serve. The motion received unanimous approval.

Also at the meeting, the council unanimously approved the proposed Legacy Church 5-K Run to be held March 17.

The Council also unanimously approved an agreement with Georgia Power to outside lighting at the new Senoia Area Library. A $12,100 installation cost will be paid from impact fees while the $22.30 monthly service fee will be added to the library budget.

The council will hold its annual retreat on Feb. 24 and 25 at The Dillard House in Dillard. The retreat is open to the public.
