Mayor for Kedron gun show, staff nixed it without council input

\With several citizens’ concerns leading to the cancellation of a revenue-producing gun show renting out the Kedron Fieldhouse, Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix says the City Council may once again look at setting a policy on what constitutes acceptable use of the facility.

When gun show representatives approached the recreation department about the possibility, city officials sought the public’s input on the matter. While most of the feedback was positive, a few residents were opposed to the event, and Leisure Services Director Randy Gaddo ultimately cancelled it.
addix said the city received five citizen complaints about the potential gun show, but only two were “anti-gun.” The others were concerned about the fieldhouse being overused with too many programs, Haddix explained.

Haddix noted that the decision was never brought back to him as mayor or to the City Council for input, but he supported the gun show.

“I definitely supported it wholeheartedly,” Haddix said.

The issue will most likely be brought back up for discussion at the annual City Council retreat.

Haddix said he wants to look at the overall picture of not just the Kedron Fieldhouse, but also the potential funding of an expansion to the Gathering Place and whether the city should replace the Kedron Aquatic Center “bubble” or instead operate it as solely an indoor pool.

PTC hates making good clean honest money. Don't complain when Fayette County and PTC snuffs everyone out. Everyone in PTC wants all these amenities but don't want to pay for them. Well this gun show for a start would be help. As the article goes on to say revenue generating. PTC and Fayette County hates business even when its only for a couple of days. Fayette County, PTC, and all who live within will be the biggest losers.

If you let in one rattlesnake then she may be pregnant!

Has anyone bothered to ask how many millions they were willing to pay as rent?

You are so correct. PTC has reversed its trend and now is more of a bedroom community than 10 years ago. PTC is not a self sustaining community. If you want to buy retail you first look outside of PTC. Go to Ashley Park and check out all the Fayette County car tags. Coweta County has blown by us economically. The future does not look any better .

" constitutes acceptable use of the facility" .

Why kill a money generating business or show?

So most of the input was positive, but a few can kill the show? so much for the will of the people PTC. What a joke..

"The others were concerned about the field-house being overused with too many programs".

Wow, does a building get tired, how can you overuse a building when its generating money?

Not everyone cared for WalMart being built in PTC but it still happened because it would bring in money.

How in the world can the City make a case to raise taxes to "expand" the senior center and then allow the Recreation Czar to turn down - at his own discretion - money-making events? Part of the reason for the center expansion is to draw money-making events - but why should we believe that's what will happen? What's wrong with this picture? Is anyone in charge down there? If this is really how Bernie was running the City, then we are better off having no one running the City. Good grief!

I have been to several gun shows in the area in the last couple years. Each one had at least 3 times the parking capacity of the Kedron facility and it was rare for me to find a close spot to park. In other words, the Kedron lot wouldn't have supported the local gun show turnout.
