PTC announces council election Nov. 8

It may be more than nine months away, but Peachtree City officials are reminding citizens of the Nov. 8 election for two seats on the City Council.

The seats which are expiring currently are held by Councilmen Eric Imker (Post 1) and Doug Sturbaum (Post 2). Both seats are for four-year terms.

Sturbaum is finishing his first term on council, and Imker is finishing a partial term, as he was elected to fill the spot of Don Haddix who had to resign his seat to run for mayor.

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and be a qualified elector of the City and must have continuously resided in Peachtree City for at least six months immediately preceding the election.

Qualifying starts at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, ending at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 2. The qualifying fee is $180.

Voter registration for the election will close at 5 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Polls will be open on Election Day, Nov. 8, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on the day of the run-off election, if required. A runoff election, which becomes necessary if no candidates in one race achieve a majority vote, would be held on Dec. 6, 2011.

Imker, in today’s paper, has written a letter to the editor encouraging citizens to run for office; and he outlines a number of specific steps that should take place for a successful campaign.
