Robert A. DeMetz, of Peachtree City

Robert A. DeMetz, a long time resident of Peachtree City, passed away on February 23, 2014.

Robert was the husband of Cathy DeMetz for 45 years. He was the father of Rob DeMetz of Newnan and Nancy DeMetz Close of Peachtree City; the father-in-law of Tracy Pryon DeMetz and Steve Close; and the grandfather of Mary Catherine DeMetz, Brianna Myatt, and Carleigh Myatt.

Robert was born to Robert I. DeMetz and Leola F. DeMetz of Pass Christian, Miss. on December 12, 1941. He grew up in Pass Christian before attending Mississippi State University, an institution that he loved all of his life. He graduated from State in 1963 and earned his law degree in 1965 from another institution in Mississippi. The next year, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam and continued to serve in the Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps until his retirement in 1986. Robert began a second career as a staff attorney at Georgia State Court of Appeals, retiring a short time ago.

A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday February 27th, 2014 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. Burial will be in Pass Christian, MS.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robert A. DeMetz Memorial Fund at the Bank of North Georgia, the proceeds of which will fund a scholarship for a local student attending Mississippi State.
