PTC mulls annexation lineup

A ‘yes’ will allow future consideration to bring four tracts into the city limits; developer wants sewer access

The Peachtree City Council will decide Thursday night whether it will consider the annexation of four small tracts along Ga. Highway 54 East just past Sumner Road.

If council votes to allow the “step one” annexation request, it means that city staff will be allowed to work with the developer on the proposal which would be presented to council for a final vote on a later date.

The annexation is being initiated by Foot Pain, LLC, which has built a new medical-office building on a 4.39-acre site that is currently in unincorporated Fayette County right off Hwy. 54.

A representative for the company indicated that the reason for seeking the annexation is to have access to the city’s sewer system. The sewer access is not, however, necessary for the development’s recent expansion.

Developer Chuck Ogletree was asked to see if the owners of other parcels in the area would be interested in joining the annexation, particularly because there are several smaller tracts between the Foot Pain site and the current city limits, which end on the north side of Hwy. 54 at the intersection with Sumner Road.

Several residents who live along Sumner Road have expressed concern that the project might seek to have an automobile access point along Sumner Road, but Ogletree has said they will not do so. On the annexation application, Ogletree also said the company would work with residents on the best location for a golf cart path to access the site.

This annexation request is completely separate from a similar petition filed by developer Bradshaw Properties for a 28.3-acre parcel a short distance to the east that also fronts on Hwy. 54 and abuts Sumner Road. That separate petition will also require a “step one” annexation decision from the council at a later date.

Also on tap Thursday night, council will receive a presentation on the city’s most recent audit, for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, from Mauldin and Jenkins LLC. According to a city staff memo, the audit report provided a clean opinion on the city’s financial statements with no material weaknesses reported.
