4 Fayette legislators face challengers

Fayetteville attorney Emory Wilkerson is one of two Democratic challengers hoping to unseat District 74 incumbent Roberta Abdul-Salaam from her seat in the July primary election.

Also facing opposition is veteran legislator John Yates of Griffin, as Rose Carroll of Fayetteville is mounting a challenge as a Democrat, meaning that she will face the Republican Yates in the November general election.

Incumbent District 77 Democrat Darryl Jordan is also facing a Republican challenge from James Brown of Riverdale.

Incumbent District 34 Senator Valencia Seay has drawn the most competition with two Democrats and a Republican signing on for a battle. Most notable of the combatants is former Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill, who served only one term and drew flak after leaving office for handing out sheriff's badges to non-department personnel including several clergymen. Hill, a Democrat, will join Seay and Fayetteville's Travis Spruill in the Democratic primary but the winner must face off against Republican Zannie "Tiger" Billingslea of Riverdale in the November general election.

Running unopposed are legislators Rep. Matt Ramsey (R-Peachtree City), Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), and Sen. Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone).

Zannie "Tiger" Billingslea is also the Southern Party candidate. The Southern Party is that single-issue group devoted to putting the Confederate battle flag back on the Georgia state flag.
