Gossett named Coweta TOTY

Thomas Crossroads Elementary School 2nd grade teacher Tracie Gossett was named the Coweta County 2012 Teacher of the Year April 26 at a program hosted by the Coweta County Board of Education and the Newnan Pilot Club.

Gossett, a 12-year Coweta educator, was chosen from among three finalists for the county-wide honor and becomes Coweta’s nominee for 2013 state Teacher of the Year.

Gossett thanked her principal and assistant principal, Dr. Fate Simmons and Julie Durrance, as well as her fellow teachers at Thomas Crossroads when her selection as the county’s “top teacher” was announced by school board member Winston Dowdell.

“This is such a wonderful honor,” Gossett said. “It is exciting to get a chance to get a message out that it’s all about the students.”

A graduate of the University of West Georgia, Gossett was praised by her principal as an outstanding teacher who is highly involved with both the school and her students and families.

Gossett said she appreciated the chance to be able to speak about the importance of parent involvement in schools.

“That’s a strong relationship that needs to be nurtured,” she said. “Having a parent involved in the school benefits students. It benefits us as teachers, as well, but more importantly it increases student success.”
