Hancock-Smits engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hancock of Athens announce the engagement of their daughter, Anne Hancock, to Mark Douglas Smits II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Smits of Senoia.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Steve Hancock and the late Steve Hancock of Americus, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell Holloway, also of Americus. She is a 2002 graduate of Fayette County High School, a 2006 magna cum laude honor graduate of The University of Georgia, with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and 2010 graduate of East Carolina University with a master’s degree in physician’s assistant studies. She is currently employed with Southern Maryland Cardiology Associates as a cardiology physician’s assistant.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mr. Phillip Smith of Mobile, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Barrett, also of Mobile, and of the late Peter Smits and Ms. Dorie Smits of San Jose, Calif. He is a 2002 graduate of Sandy Creek High School, and a 2009 graduate of The University of West Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He is currently employed with Woolpert Inc. as a technical specialist.

The wedding is planned for June 4, 2011 at the Evergreen Marriott Resort in Stone Mountain. Following a honeymoon in Mexico, the couple will live in Alexandria, Va.
