Pedestrian killed on Hwy. 85S

A pedestrian died late Wednesday night after being struck by a tractor trailer on Ga. Highway 85 south near Whitewater Middle School, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. as the tractor trailer was heading south on the highway, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb. No charges have been filed against the driver. As with all serious motor vehicle crashes, drug and alcohol samples were taken from the driver, Babb confirmed.
