New Senoia PD/Court building almost ready

The delay of the opening for the new Senoia Police Department and Municipal Court building appears to be coming to a close. The floors are in and the final walk-through is expected next week.

The completion of the $1.3 million project on Howard Road had been delayed recently due to the moisture level in the concrete floor. But that obstacle has been overcome and the flooring has been installed.

Police Chief Jason Edens said Thursday that an initial walk-through with the project punch list was accomplished last week. The final walk-through is expected on June 23, he said.

The project was also delayed earlier in the year due to the large amount of rainy weather experienced over the winter.

The 8,310 square-foot building sits on approximately three acres on Howard Road near the city’s ball fields. The land was purchased from Southern Mills in 2008 for $232,000.

The project was funded through the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Brick and Mortar Program. Through the program, GMA essentially purchases the property, constructs the building and leases it to the city. Once the building is paid off, GMA signs it back over to the city.
