Shafer-Long engagement

COL (RET) Jeffrey and Mrs. Teresa Shafer of Peachtree City, Ga. are pleased to announce the engagement of Jenna Christine Shafer, to Samuel Quince Long, son of Dr. and Mrs. James Long of Newnan, Ga.

The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Mrs. Janis L. Shafer, of Peachtree City, Ga.

Jenna is a 2006 graduate of Starr's Mill High School and a 2010 Suma Cum Laude graduate of University of Georgia where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in biological science and animal science. She is currently pursuing a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.

The groom - elect is a 2007 graduate of Woodward Academy and a 2011 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he was a pitcher on the Navy Baseball Team. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and is currently stationed in Jacksonville, N.C.

Sam is the grandson of Pat and Lamar Burton of Sharpsburg, Ga.

A June 2014 wedding is planned in Newnan, Ga.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced this week that the unemployment rate in the Three Rivers region in July was 7.1 percent, up five-tenths of a percentage point from 6.6 percent in June.
