Coweta schools look to extend accreditation

The Coweta County School System will soon initiate the process for its continued accreditation by SACS/CASI (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Council on Accreditation and School Improvement). Coweta was one of the first five systems in Georgia to receive district accreditation.

Superintendent Blake Bass in addressing the upcoming process at the Coweta County Board of Education meeting earlier this week noted that the goals included in accreditation mirror those of the Coweta school system. Stating the school system’s mission, Bass said the goal is to provide high level, engaging work for all learners and leaders in order to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Bass also reiterated the school system’s vision which is to ensure the success of each student. Bass and others at the meeting acknowledged the challenge that comes with identifying the goal of ensuring the success of every student. Bass nonetheless maintained that the school system was up to the challenge.

Also noting that Coweta was of the first five school districts in Georgia to receive SACS/CASI accreditation, Bass reviewed the school system’s beliefs that interface with academic excellence.

The school system’s four beliefs are:
-As a learning community, we must continually improve.
-As leaders of learners, we must see students as volunteers in their learning.
-That the Coweta County School System, in partnership with the family and community, must focus on providing challenging, interesting, satisfying work for students.
-That we are responsible for the success of each student.

“These are absolutes,” Bass said.

The SACS/CASI team will arrive in Coweta on Sept. 19.
