Palmetto State Quartet will perform at Line Creek Sept. 9

The smooth, rich sounds of southern gospel music will ring loudly in the Sharpsburg area when The Palmetto State Quartet performs at the Line Creek Baptist Church in Sharpsburg on Friday, Sept. 9, beginning at 7 p.m..

“The Palmetto State Quartet has been a mainstay in southern gospel music since the 1940s,” a spokesperson said. “With nearly 70 years of history behind them, the quartet is regarded as one of the premier Christian recording artists in the industry.

“Over the past seven decades, many wonderfully talented men have represented the Quartet and carried on the rich tradition, always delivering exceptional vocal harmony and superb stage presence. That tradition continues today with the group’s current personnel.”

As the quartet entered its seventh decade, bass singer Larry Strickland assumed ownership of the group. Strickland, a former member of the renowned Stamps Quartet, has spent years in and around gospel and secular music. He is married to Naomi Judd, and has been instrumental in the career of the Judds and numerous other internationally known recording artists. He now serves as manager and bass singer for PSQ.

Joining Strickland on stage are lead vocalist Paul Lancaster, who, like Strickland, brings years of experience to the group, having traveled with such popular groups as The Mullins, The Martins, The Greenes and The Booth Brothers, just to name a few. Wesley Smith provides the tenor vocals for the quartet, while David Darst rounds out the group, providing baritone.

Line Creek Baptist is on Bob Smith Road just off Lower Fayetteville Road in Coweta County. For additional information, call 770-253-9393.
