FREE SPEECH — For week of Sept. 3 — 9

OK, Free Speechers, a new week and a new page to have your say.

A couple of topics to prime the pump:

1. Washington Post columnist and economist Robert J. Samuelson flat out says this: “Passing the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) weakened the economy.” (Sept. 3 WP).

And a columnist for The U.K.’s The Telegraph casts her eyes across the Atlantic and says this about our current economic situation:

“It has become apparent to anyone with a grip on economic reality that free markets simply cannot produce enough wealth to support the sort of universal entitlement programmes which the populations of democratic countries have been led to expect.” — Janet Daley, The Telegraph (U.K.), Sept. 1, 2012.

Are they wrong? And if they are wrong, how would you suggest Mr. Obama solve our economic problems? (Please don’t say, “Tax the rich more.” Take away every penny from every rich person in the U.S. from this day forward until forever, and you still can’t pay the nation’s bills. So that’s just a stupid non-starter.)

2. Starr’s Mill senior busted for showing cell phone photos of his privates — What should we think about this growing problem (no puns, please)? Should laws be changed to deal appropriately with this adolescent posturing? Or are current laws good enough?

3. The Atlantic’s James Fallows admits that he and his fellow progressives are disappointed in President Obama’s performance for the past three years. Even so, Fallows says, “I’m going to vote for him ... because: One, I prefer Democratic to Republican economic policy ... Two, I prefer Democratic foreign policy to Republican foreign policy ... Three, I prefer Democratic to Republican judicial/social policy.” So, despite Mr. Obama’s failures as president, a Democrat is going to vote to reelect a Democrat, no matter what. And the progressives accuse conservatives of drinking the Limbaugh Kool-Aid.

Will you do likewise in November: “Forget the facts, forget the failures, Obama is our guy”? Well, a lot of us did that with Bush, didn’t we?

Free Speechers, start your engines!

I think I hit a nerve folks...

Lol Mytymite... I love it when you get your shorts in a wad, plus it is good for your heart! Carry on now. Just remember, only those that truly care about you will tell you the truth. If putting up with your public scorn is the price I must pay to show you the light, then I am proud to accept that as my punishment.

Mikey took his happy pill now he is just trying to be cute---

Or did you find something to hit to get over that little temper spurt? Or did you take in a fast meeting?

I would rather be put in a room full of scorpions and rattlesnakes than to even ponder the thought that you cared one iota about me. As for showing me the light, that is one big laugh--you couldn't find your way out of a paper bag.

You hit a nerve, don't flatter yourself. I am not the one who has trouble controlling their emotions. I never get upset about anything anyone writes on this site. See, that is the difference between us-- I don't take things seriously, and the biggest thing I don't take seriously is you.

Topic #3

Democrats disillusioned with President Obama's lackluster performance but still going to vote for him could fit the definition of insanity in that they repeat the same misstep and expect a different outcome. After all, wasn't it a better than 95% African American vote for Mr Obama, but without any racism?

I heard 95% - 98% depending on the source. I also heard that 87% or better were expected to vote for him again. But Allen West thinks that his stand on gay marriage may hurt him among blacks. Guess we'll find out in November.

Subject #2 Need more clarification. The young man is 18 and

therefore he is considered an adult. How old were the 'minors' he shared the pics with? If they are sixteen and 17 they are more his peers than not. It was not the right thing to do but if he was sharing these pics with other students near his age it is a lot different than showing them to 8 or 9 year olds. Right or wrong, both girls and boys are sharing explicit pics of themselves via cellphones, etc. If this was back when we were kids (right after they replaced the covered wagons in my case) it would have been one student sharing a page out of Playboy with fellow students. I don't think this young man should end up with a record for this unless he was using it to entice younger children for illicit purposes.

The Rumor Mill

The Rumor Mill at Starr's Mill said he's a junior in the Autism behavior program (Jenny Kelly's TRIAD program for kids on the Autism Spectrum) the school system has located at Starr's Mill. Wake up parents of Autistic Kids in Fayette County! Your kids will be next. Must be the other place they are getting their $20 million deficit caught up. Ready, set, exodus to a better school system before your kids get arrested. Oh no, more empty houses! Yikes! Property values will go down even more! Citizens of Fayette County, Starr's Mill is going to cause our beloved Peachtree City to hit rock bottom because of Autism! Amazing!

MYTIMITE: For the Love of God

Your posts are obnoxious enough without posting them two or three times in a row. Geez, you don't stop talking long enough to keep up what your feeble brain is doing. PAY ATTENTION!
And for the Love of God MYTMITE seriously, close your trap for a while. You have an opinion on everything and know almost nothing. I have never seen anyone use so many words to say so little. You are one of those people that I hide from when I see them in the grocery store because they simply won't shut up and take a breath! Thirty minutes later your ice cream is melting down your shorts and the person is still foaming at the mouth.
I have been diligent about just ignoring what you write because it is about as worthless as tits on a bull but when you're posting ratio is 3-1, not of any one person, but everyone else combined, it's hard to ignore. Do yourself and all of us a favor and take a vacation or put some mittens on your hand.
Save us all the headache of posting a 76 page rebuttal to this, just take the hint!

Gee Mikey, where have you been? Serving time, maybe? Evidently

you are off your meds again. Better watch that temper--can get you in trouble you know. Oh, you do know, don't you?? As for my double posts, if you were paying attention you would see that has happened to quite a few people. Personally, I could care less what an ass like you might think of me. You had made yourself scarce for quite some time. Guess your handlers had told you to lay low because you were/are such a buffoon. Did they tell you that there is no way you are going to stand a chance of getting on the council or anywhere else? Is that why all of a sudden your gargantuan mouth is overloading your pea-brain once again? I will write as much as long and as often I please, until someone with more intelligence, more couth and more authority than you tells me otherwise. Oh, gee, did I get your temper riled? Do I have to be concerned that you may hunt me down and do bodily harm??? Ohh, scare me!!!

Mad Mike LaTella WOW !!!

Of all people to talk about "giving someone a headache", Mikey you'd be it! Here's a guy who has been through court-ordered anger management and apparently still struggles.

Mike, please get help. Maybe you can hook up with Mudcat and help her with her "midlife crisis", but, please, get some help.

Gosh, it takes me back to some Elementary School that I hated to be in, but I hated the silly little twerps the most. The ones who wrote notes and called names. 50 years and things haven't changed - just the location.

Get over it, you dopes.

The combatants, a.k.a. "dopes", are indeed in the "Free Speech" arena, although "Me Screech" may be a more accurate subheading. This exchange serves to reinforce my opinion that child psychology is the only psychology.

Because I read nothing to the contrary.

And yes, I remember kids sneaking Playboy's into school. I didn't know that could be considered a crime today. Wow, we are one uptight society.

Unless you know how to suppress raging hormones, not much to do except teach both males & females about their reproductive systems and how to monitor/control them. If Ithink back to my HS days (50+ yrs ago), I KNOW there was a combo of some luck & some planning involved to prevent unwanted parenthood. Except back then, if luck & planning failed, there would be family embarrassment on both sides; today, not so much--pretty much "ho hum".

Have you always wanted to ride a bus?

Well, here's your chance. Obama and Biden are offering free bus rides to their nomination acceptance speech so that they can fill the seats in the stadium. They are going to the surrounding colleges and the black churches, but I'm sure they would detour to PTC and pick you up. After all, a vote is a vote.

Cancel the bus ride, AtHomeGym

Looks like the "bussing" program is failing and they are moving the event from the stadium to a 20,000 seat venue. Now when the President of the United States can't draw 60 or 70,000 people from his own party at his own convention, I think that smells like trouble.

Looks like his slightly deluded base that thought car and mortgage payments were going to be paid for by Obamamoney are not interested this time around. JeffC's thoughtful state by state analysis is totally out the window if only half the Democrats show up to vote.

Democratic officials "stressed the decision was made for public safety reasons". This is what the convention CEO had to say:

"We have been monitoring weather forecasts closely and several reports predict thunderstorms in the area, therefore we have decided to move Thursday's proceedings to Time Warner Cable Arena to ensure the safety and security of our delegates and convention guests," convention committee CEO Steve Kerrigan said.

"The last thing we wanted was a stadium full of people with lightning breaking out around 10 to 11 p.m."

A quick check of the Weather Channel hourly forecast for Charlotte at 10 and 11 tomorrow night says: Mostly Clear, 10% chance of precipitation. Coincidentally, it forecasted a 0% chance of filling the football stadium.....

Depends on who is there, Earkle. Some collateral damage is ok

a stadium full of people with lightning breaking out around 10 to 11 p.m

Just think about who is sitting in those seats before they get to vote and tell me a lightning strike is a bad idea.

Maybe that's why they put God back into the platform - hedging their bets.

Sexting

Students need to be informed that this is an example of distributing pornography to minors. It's a felony and should be treated as such. Period.

Actually likey, likey Fayetteville, there is more to inform

We can start by informing the students that this country was founded upon a serious religious principle - One nation under God. Some would say that the weenie waver does not have a seat at the table of serious Americans. And then we could move on to the sacrifices our soldiers made in WWI, WW2, Korea and Vietnam and of course Iraq and Afghanistan- many of whom are or were 18 years old. So, at 18 this dude thinks genitalia photos make sense. Maybe an institution would take him. And then, if you all are still paying attention - go for The Constitution. Wow!

Then, since The Constitution does not actually mention it - go on to sexting. James Madison didn't know about that, but if he did he would say it is not the role of Federal Government to get involved. I guarantee it. So, don't get involved at the state or local level either. Maybe the parents should get involved and discourage that sexting thing. Maybe not get him a phone in the first place. Don't you think that would be a good thing? I do.

What say you,, treesarepeachy? Got friends?

ihf, I think before we put a label on a young person for life we

need to consider all that transpired. Youmg people make foolish decisions without them stopping to think how it will affect them in their adult life. We may consider 18 an adult but in many cases they are anything but adult and not equipped to make adult decisions. As I said before, unless this young man's intent was to show these pics to much younger children for illicit purposes, his life should not be ruined. After all, kids have been playing 'show me yours and I'll show you mine' for many many years and starting at a very young age. There is so much evil out there that we sometimes go to the extreme to try to stamp it out. A teen-age boy sharing a pic of his genetalia with his peers is foolish but should not merit a record. Some punishment, yes, but not a record.
