Commission acting like Democrats

It is so discouraging to know that our local Republican elected Board of Commissioners is behaving like the activist ultra-liberals in Washington, D.C., that we have come to despise.

Is there anyone besides the developers who own the land who honestly thinks the West Fayetteville Bypass is a good idea? Please, give us a break!

It would be nice to have some genuine conservatives in the county government for a change. We can’t be complaining about how the folks in our nation’s capitol are wasting our money when the local Board of Commissioners is doing the very same thing right under our noses.

The commissioners couldn’t balance the county budget and now they want to continue wasting our taxes on frivolous projects like the West Fayetteville Bypass.

Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele said the bypass would allow the developers to ramp up housing developments from North Fayette County all the way down to Starr’s Mill. I don’t want that and I can’t find anyone who does.

Our local government should be representing the people of this county. It is not the role of the County Commission to do whatever they desire without the consent of the people who voted them into office.

The County Commission does not need to be subsidizing the homebuilding industry with our taxes. The West Fayetteville Bypass is nothing more than a local welfare project which will provide no real benefit to any of us.

Take the bypass funds and spend them on legitimate transportation projects that will benefit us all. We deserve better. We demand better!

Thank you for standing up for the citizens of Fayette County. Everyone who is opposed to the West Fayetteville Bypass should attend each commission meeting and let our current commissioners know exactly how we feel. The Commission Meetings are as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 23 - 7 pm
Wednesday, Oct. 6 – 3:30 pm
Thursday, Oct. 14 – 7 pm
Thursday, Oct. 28 – 7 pm
Wednesday, Nov. 3 – 3:30 pm
Thursday, Nov. 18 – 7 pm
Wednesday, Dec. 1 – 3:30 pm
Thursday Dec. 9 – 7 pm

Nicole stood up before and I remember writing her name in for FCBOE---but not enough voters would let her remain standing and she had to sit back down. Don't quit--make another run and see what happens.

Please excuse my typo. I agree with AtHomegym. You most certainly should make another run for the Board of Education. I, too, wrote your name in. We need more folks like you in all aspects of county service. People who aren't afraid to stand up for what is right. Thank you, again.

"acting like democrats!"

Oh, lordy, no! How bad can they get. Denocrats, of all things!
Why you even insinuate that the whole bunch in Washington---republicans and all, are acting like democrats.

I can't agree with you more on the bypass being a local welfare project. The whole deal is a scandal.

Anyone reading should complain to the commissioners if you don't like the way they are handling the bypass.

Unfortunately the Commissoners Quintet won't stop crowing the bypass song. We've heard it for years now, and it's like hearing long fingernails scratching a blackboard. It's a case where even when you throw them out of office for deserting the voters, they won't listen or change. The problem now is that they have undoubtedly formed an alliance on the bypass where the remaining three won't budge when the new commissioners take office in January. This way, they hope to get the last laugh. My own opinion is that in 2012, Horgan won't run for reelection for obvious reasons, Frady's too old, and Hearn probably won't run either, because the West Bypass by that time will be something none of them would publicly touch with a ten foot pole. On the other hand, Hearn has called the West Bypass "his baby." Most folks don't abandon their children, so what he might do is still up for grabs.

All in all, this has been cleverly orchestrated. First the entire transportation package goes into the 2003 SPLOST as "road, street, and bridge projects" from which the commissioners decide to activate the East Bypass. When the East bites the dust due to funding, the West Bypass gets jerked onto the front burner. Then, those who complain are told "you voted for it." Such a dastardly scheme. Never heard of such an unpopular issue dominating the news for so long. We made two commissioners go away, but the road and the other three will be more difficult.

But right now, they're the five musketeers.
