Gary Alan Swanson, 68, of Peachtree City

Mr. Gary Alan Swanson, 68, of Peachtree City, Ga. went to meet the Lord on September 28, 2013.

He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Swanson retired from Avery Dennison after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing sports and was a Freemason. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and the special way he was a mentor to his family and friends, known to many as "Uncle Sweetheart."

He is survived by his loving wife Pat Slocum Swanson; son Joseph (Lisa) Swanson; sister Donna (Wayne) Shutts of Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law Richard Slocum, Ronald Slocum, William (Paula) Slocum; sisters-in-law June Giambra and Sandie Sekely; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Valarie) Swanson of Ohio and parents Elmer and Lillian Swanson. Many thanks to family and friends for all their love and support during Gary's illness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy in Gary's memory are asked to consider a donation to Delta Xi Chapter of Sigma Beta Sorority, Inc. c/o Teresa Dolan, Treasurer, 1193 Andrew Bailey Road, Sharpsburg, Ga. 30277.
