Fayette Presbyterian completes its 10th Nicaraguan mission

In August, Fayette Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville returned from its 10th Nicaragua mission under the auspices of El Ayudante (The Helper), a Tennessee-based nonprofit.

“Partnership in Mission” was the theme for this year’s mission trip to Nicaragua by Fayette Presbyterian and five other churches. A group of 11 adults participated in an eight-day mission to León, a city of 145,000 people.

Fayette Presbyterian has established relationships with a number of Nicaraguan partners. Working with a local Nicaraguan doctor, mission teams fanned throughout the countryside delivering portable clay pot water filtration systems to families who have no access to clean drinking water.

Fayette Presbyterian started a trade school two years ago working with a local pastor in an extremely poor “landfill” neighborhood. Testimonies were shared by Nicaraguan young people whose lives have been changed by the skills they have learned at the trade school.

The mission team also visited a local nursing home and participated in prison ministry.

Bible schools were held by mission members where they used the “Good Samaritan” skit, complete with donkey, which was a big hit.

Last, the mission members provided a teacher appreciation luncheon for local elementary teachers with whom the church has worked annually.
