Fire damages home in east Fayette Co.

A fire early Saturday evening caused substantial damage to a family’s home on Shore Line Drive in eastern Fayette County, officials said.

The first county fire unit on the scene at 6:40 p.m. reported flames visible through the windows of the second story, and it took half an hour to get the fire under control, according to Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services Capt. Pete Nelms.

Fire crews from the City of Fayetteville assisted the county with the fire, Nelms said. No one was injured during the blaze, he added.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed the blaze started in an upstairs bedroom, Nelms said. Firefighters were able to make interior attacks on the fire, which helped save some of the home’s dining room and den furniture, Nelms said.

The upstairs area suffered extensive damage along with the attic and parts of the roof line, Nelms said.

Nelms said the county was thankful for the help extended from their counterparts at the Fayetteville Fire Department.

All told four fire engines including a quint (aerial) apparatus responded along with the county’s manpower squad, city units and other county units.

The first unit arrived on the scene seven minutes after units were first dispatched to the home, which is about the county’s average response time, Nelms said.
