Lots of drama in Friday's football games

If you had watched or listened to the Braves playoff loss to the Cardinals tonight, you probably already had enough highs and lows to last you the weekend. There were plenty more in the high school football games tonight though.

Whitewater (5-1) took on Northgate and won 33-26. The Wildcats fell behind 9-0 early after a Viking safety and a touchdown. Whitewater then rattled off 13 straight points as Jay Ashley connected with Trevor Morgan on a 33 yard touchdown pass and Kendall Conley scored on a four yard run. Northgate got two straight touchdowns before Conley added a three yard touchdown run and Christian Wafford added a seven yard run. Northgate took a 26-25 lead late after a 35 yard field goal but Conley scored his third touchdown of the game to give Whitewater the lead with two minutes to go. The Wildcats converted a two point conversion and sealed the win.Whitewater hosts McIntosh (4-1) next week on senior night.

Our Lady of Mercy (4-2) scored first in their home game against Landmark Christian (4-2) but the War Eagles scored last, a quarterback keeper in overtime to win 30-27.

The scoring started in the first quarter as Albert Wilson ran two yards for a touchdown. Landmark answered with a short touchdown run from Jeremiah Kirkland. Jameson Vest kicked a 21 yard field goal to give the Bobcats a 10-7 lead but Kirkland answered with a 60 yard touchdown run to give Landmark a 14-10 lead at the half. Chauncey Laboo started the third quarter with a 52 yard touchdown run but Kirkland answered with another touchdown run to give Landmark a 21-17 lead. With 1:12 left in the game, Mercy scored when Dylan Terrell found Chris Hunt on an 11 yard touchdown pass. Landmark answered with a 21 yard field goal after driving 76 yards in the final minute. The two teams went to overtime where Vest kicked a 22 yard field goal for Mercy and Landmark got a touchdown on a QB keeper.

Starr's Mill (2-4) lost to Creekside 21-3. They are off next week.

Fayette County (0-5) lost to Carrollton 44-13 with Montrell Kelley scoring both touchdowns for the Tigers. Fayette County plays at Columbus (0-5) on Thursday.

Sandy Creek (5-0) traveled to take on Troup and won 48-10. The Patriots host Shaw (3-2) next Friday.
