Coach Jeremy Williams to speak at Prince of Peace Lutheran Dec. 2

Beginning at 5 p.m., The documentary, “Season of a Lifetime,” will be shown after which Williams will share his story. The documentary is the true story of Williams and his courageous story and attitude as he battles ALS. It was filmed during the 2010 football season.

A standout safety at the University of Memphis from 1990-93, Williams has coached at Greenville High School in Meriwether County, a school in a town of fewer than 1,000 people playing in small-school Class A, for the past eight seasons. He has led his teams to a 47-37 record and three state playoff appearances.

Williams coached his squad to a perfect 10-0 regular-season record in 2010, where they were eliminated by the eventual state champion in the second round of the playoffs to finish 11-1 — after he was diagnosed with a terminal illness, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was named National High School Coach of the Year in 2010.

The Williams family received a new home as part of ABC TV’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” In addition, the Greenville Patriots also received a new locker room, weight room and equipment room.

Williams has trouble walking and is confined to a wheelchair and his speech is slurred. He used a motorized wheelchair to coach his team on the sidelines while wearing a headset microphone to amplify his voice.

“His determination and motivation in the face of adversity have given hope and inspiration to the entire community.” a spokesperson said.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is on Ga. Highway 314 in Fayetteville between Lowe’s and the Fayette Pavilion. Visit www.princeofpeacefayette.com for more information.
