PTC seeking grant for new Flat Creek path

Peachtree City is applying for a grant to build a golf cart path that would connect the nearly complete Flat Creek path bridge all the way up to Crosstown Drive.

The path would also connect to the city’s baseball and soccer complex along with businesses in the industrial park including Panasonic, the FAA Tracon building and the future SANY headquarters campus, officials said.

The 2.7 mile path would be on the eastern side of Flat Creek and would reach northward to the retail area at Crosstown Road. On the southern side it would connect to the new Flat Creek bridge that connects the industrial park with south Peachtree City through the Morallion Hills subdivision.

Of the path’s $894,000 estimated cost, the city would have to fund $319,000. But the city can roughly halve that cost by using in-kind labor for construction. The remaining funds can come from a surplus in funds from the 2007 Bricks and Mortar loan program, said Community Development Director David Rast.

A private firm, ECOS Environmental Design, has worked with the city for free to prepare the grant application.

The grant funding from the Federal Highway Administration would come via the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, officials said.

Rast noted this path is on the city’s master plan for the multi-use path system.
