Plunkett thanks outgoing PTC manager for straight talk

It’s not very often that a former Peachtree City council member returns to address the council during a meeting.

Cyndi Plunkett took advantage of her citizen’s allowance of two minutes during the public comment portion of Thursday’s meeting.

“I did not come here to complain,” Plunkett said with a smile on her face. “I’m here to recognize the end of an era.”

Specifically Plunkett came to praise retiring City Manager Bernie McMullen, noting this was most likely his last full meeting before his final day the end of the year.

Plunkett said one of the things she most appreciated about McMullen when she was on council was how he would always give council his recommendations based on what he thinks is best for the city, “and not what we want to hear.”

Plunkett stressed that she hoped the next city manager hired by council would be able to do the same, particularly in the ability to make equally good decisions despite what some might want to hear.

She also noted that McMullen has not only served three different city councils, but he also has guided the city through some tough economic times, and tough personnel issues as well.

“All those times, the recommendations that Bernie has made always were to protect the interests of Peachtree City...” Plunkett said.

After Plunkett’s presentation, the audience, city staff and council gave McMullen a standing ovation.

As McMullen leaves the end of the year, City Administrative Services Director Nikki Vrana has been appointed to serve as interim City Manager to serve until a full-time replacement can be named.

Classy and gracious gesture exhibited by Cyndi. Two words not associated with the current Council Clowns. Just wondering how much better PTC would be with Cyndi as Mayor and Beth Pullias on Council instead of Erika. Oh well....

Cyndi would most likely have it as screwed up as Logsdon had it. I wonder if Logsdon and Bernie still have their home remodeling business.

Wow, get over it Mike!
The blame Bush/Logsdon line is so very worn out.
This was indeed a classy act by Plunkett.
I hope she is not done with public service.

I've lived in PTC 25+ years and Logsdon was by far and away the worst Mayor we've had. Even worse than Lenox and thats saying something. Plunkett would have been more of the same and was/is anything but a class act.

Your sad devotion to the crowd that hates anything not congruent with "DirectPac" principles (or lack thereof) is duly noted.

I have no devotion to any group, sad or otherwise. What is sad is your need to turn a nice act of a PTC citizen into political hate.
I seem to have notice the name of Steve Brown missed your list of worst mayors...hmmm.

Not hatin', Just sayin'

No politics here at all, much less hate. Steve Brown was a fair Mayor - not good but not bad. Cyndi Plunkett "mispoke" herself too many times to ever gain my respect. "Nice act" my aunt rosy, merely political posturing.

But ...., as to your protestations; to quote the bard "methinks that thou doth protestation too much.

Never cared too much for Shakespeare.
Oh well.
I would like to meet your Aunt Rosy.

Regardless of one's sentiments toward the City Manager, this was a class act by a classy lady.

There are those on council that should consider adopting leadership traits such as this.

Can't agree. I don't know the "classy lady" you speak of, but I see little if any class in embarrassing a sitting Mayor in front of a crowd at an official function!

Kinda like General Chrystal, isn't it? Or that lady in the Ag department making that same stupid speech everywhere!

I just don't see this as an attempt to embarrass anyone. Just a person and former colleague thanking someone who she believes has done a good job in service to the city of PTC. Nothing wrong with going on record at a public meeting. It happens all the time.

Sorry, but the worst mayor this city has ever had is the one currently serving...

Tell us what he has accomplished so far as the mayor....acomplishments other than alienating more than 1/2 the current city council, get fired from the Transportation roundtables, run off a great city manager, show no leadership skills in running this city, played poltical mind games and screwed up the Low Temp deal by not properly introducing the project through the city council and respective departments because he wanted to be a "hero" on it, violated the city charter by not doing the city manager's review in private...the list goes on.

Tell us one thing he's done expect micro manage stupid things like dog leashes, gas golf carts and other bulls@#t!

A common sense woman with class. PLEASE run again!
