Mr. and Mrs. Walter Leo Bertke of Peachtree City announce the engagement of their daughter, Allison Marie, to Ryan Joseph Downey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Lamar Downey of Peachtree City.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Louis Smith of Yorkshire, Ohio, and of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Joseph Bertke of St. Henry, Ohio. She is a 2004 graduate of McIntosh High School and a 2007 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she graduated magna cum laude with degrees in history and political science. She also received her M.A. in the social sciences from the University of Chicago in 2009.
The groom-elect is a 2004 graduate of McIntosh High School and a 2008 cum laude graduate of University of Georgia, where he received a degree in comparative literature and was a member of the University of Georgia Rugby Football Club. He will receive his MFA in creative writing from the University of Notre Dame in 2010.
The wedding will be June 12, 2010, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a reception at Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.

With November elections coming up, the case for district voting seems fairly clear-cut and virtually a matter of common sense.
