Last chance to help police toy drive

The annual “Light Up the Night” toy drive sponsored by the Peachtree City Police Department is entering its home stretch.

The last collection event is Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at The Avenue shopping center. If you want to get involved at the last minute there are some special needs still remaining to be met; and with the blue flashing lights from police cars, the collection zone will be easy to spot.

If you want to make it even easier on yourself, you can skip the shopping and make a cash donation instead as the money will be put to good use buying needed last-minute items and helping pay for utility bills of needy families who are struggling.

The toy drive already has plenty of toys for the younger set, but still needs presents for older children such as the 12-15 year-old age range, said police Capt. Stan Pye.

“Things like girls’ makeup, there’s one asking for a Beyonce music CD, another is wanting hats with faces on them like Cookie Monster and the Smurfs,” Pye said.

A 15-year-old boy who plays football at a local high school is in need of size 15 shoes, which are hard to find. Other older kids are interested in cologne and perfume, “the typical teenage kid stuff,” Pye said.
