Man dies Sunday in N. PTC house fire

An early-morning house fire in north Peachtree City has claimed the life of an unidentified adult male, fire officials said Sunday afternoon.

About three-quarters of the home at 104 Adams Fall in the Spooner Ridge subdivision was involved in flames when fire crews arrived responding to a 5:20 a.m. 911 call. Because of the intensity of the blaze, firefighters were unable to conduct an interior attack on the structure but instead had to fight the flames from the outside, said Peachtree City Fire Marshal David Williamson.

The blaze is believed to have started on the second floor, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Williamson said. The damage to the second story was extensive and has hampered the investigation somewhat, he added.

The victim was the only resident of the home and his body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office for a positive identification. The blaze is being investigated by the Peachtree City Police Department, the Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Williamson said.

The crew of about 20 firefighters was able to protect two nearby homes from catching fire, as the houses in the subdivision are fairly close, Williamson noted.
The firefighters also had to battle below-freezing temperatures but the temperature and ice never affected the operations, he added.
