Guns (D) vs. guns (R)

New York City Mayor Bloomberg, Obama’s hitman for gun control, went on the TV talk show circuit and declared that if President Obama does not get his way on gun control then 48,000 people will be killed by illegal weapons.

What the mayor conveniently failed to add was that even if Obama gets his way on gun control there will still be 48,000 people killed with illegal guns.

One difference between a Republican and a Democrat is if a Republican doesn’t want a gun, then he won’t buy one.

If a Democrat doesn’t want a gun, then he doesn’t want anyone else to have one. And he will fight for legislation to outlaw guns.

Mr. Bloomberg, although a Democrat most of his life, ran for mayor in 2001 as a registered Republican and in a very strong Democratic city. He ran for his second term as mayor as a registered Republican as well.

In his bid for athird term he ran as an independent because of the poor treatment by the Republican party of the log cabin republicans at the convention when it was held in NY. The Republican Party snubbed them and excluded them from most events so the mayor hosted a reception for them at Gracie Mansion and he, himself snubbed his own party in return.

Although liberal, as was Rockefeller and other NY Republicans, when given the opportunity to switch back to the Democratic Party who desperately wanted him and supported his effort to change the city charter on terms limits, he didn't and decided run and remain an independent.

I only point this out only because in Bloomberg's case, it is not D vs R! Possibly liberal vs conservative but not party lines.
