Student honored for speech

Aida Villegas, adult education student with Fayette County Adult Ed. – Griffin Technical College was nominated by her ESL and GED instructors as Fayette County EAGLE representative (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education).

Villegas prepared a speech about herself and how adult education has impacted her life and her community. Recently, she competed at Griffin Technical College against representatives from the other Griffin Technical College service delivery areas.

The competition consisted of her speech and a question-answer session in front of a board of judges. She won the competition and will serve as the Griffin Technical College EAGLE representative for the 2009/2010 school year. She will be invited to various events to serve as the college’s representative for EAGLE.

Villegas will also attend the EAGLE Leadership Institute with all the technical college EAGLE representatives in Atlanta in February 2010.

The Technical College System of Georgia through its Office of Adult Education sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education Leadership Institute. The student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.
