The American voters made a strong and powerful statement with last Tuesday’s election results. The electorate swept out scores of Democrats from the House of Representatives and put a serious scare into the Democrats in the Senate.

Vote or shut up

I have done my civic duty. I have voted in Tuesday’s election even though it is not yet Tuesday. I will be on a plane much of Tuesday so, thanks to absentee balloting, I have done my small but necessary part in the democratic process.

Criminally annoying

Nicole Polizzi, known to the world that I apparently do not occupy as “Snooki” from the MTV show “Jersey Shore,” went to court recently on the charge of being criminally annoying. Can you really do that? People can really be arrested for being annoying? Who knew? How cool!

Getting over 9/11

Several days ago I was reading about the proposed mosque to be built near the scene of the 9/11 attacks in New York. The nationally known newspaper had interviewed a number of persons and the opinions on the subject were varied. One, however, stood out to me.

Prior to a week and a half ago, I had never ridden a motorcycle in my life. Well, that’s not totally true. When I was 15, I took off on a friend’s bike and made it about 30 feet before I crashed. I bear the scar on my right shin to this day.

In one of the local newspapers recently, the front page headlines read, “Fatal Shooting,” “Pedestrian Killed on Highway 34,” along with the announcement about the death of a local leader, and the news of six teenagers who were involved in a car accident.
