The vast majority of the Church throughout the world observes the season of Lent. Lent is the 40-day period leading up to Easter. Depending on the denomination, Sundays may or may not be included in that 40 days.

It was Jan. 18, 1995 when I first met her. My wife and I were sitting in the hospital waiting room when my son, Jason, brought her out to meet us. Jessica had just given birth to her first child.

Surviving the storm

Due to inexperience and a lack of good planning, I was on a motorcycle a few years ago heading north on an interstate highway during a terrible storm that spawned tornadoes. Not the best place in the world to be and not the road trip experience that I had envisioned.

Against all odds

Last Sunday the undefeated Carolina Panthers, 14-0, traveled to Atlanta to play the Falcons who, after a 5-0 start, were at 7-7 on the season. Just two weeks earlier, Atlanta had been humiliated by a 38-0 score at the hands of Carolina.

It's what God thinks

I was a young pastor when a prominent parishioner said that I needed to be more animated in my preaching. He then referenced several television ministers who used drama to their advantage.

“They are not boring,” he said. “They are alive!”

A Thanksgiving snapshot

On Thanksgiving Day, my wife and I had 14 people at our house, including us. Two of my three sons, a granddaughter and her fiance, my middle son’s fiance, four younger granddaughters, and three older grandsons were on hand to eat and celebrate the holiday.
