The sun kissed the horizon and slowly started to fade; the bright sky of blue transitioned to soft hues of purple, yellow, and pink. Sweltering heat of a June day at the beach had finally been replaced with a cool breeze off the ocean.

Mom said it best, “Don’t make that ugly face at your sister. It’ll be stuck like that the rest of your life.”
Okay, stop laughing. That ugly face I made at my sister never stuck, but it seems I did something way back then that actually did.

Shiny stuff

Us menfolk can justify buying most anything. Now this statement should come as no surprise to all who have to put up with us. Trust me, it also comes as no surprise to The Wife.

Most of the ideas for this column don’t actually come from me. They come from The Wife. Now to many, it won’t come as a surprise that she’s the intelligent one in the family. And why marry a really smart person and not pay attention to what she has to say?

Home economics class

When Mom heard we were baking fluffy biscuits from scratch in home ec, she gave me some pointers and told me to remember them. So, you see, the fire at Briarwood High School home of the Mighty Buccaneers was actually her fault. At least that’s what I told Principal Baker. He was not amused.

Horrors of Spring Cleaning

Mom had no idea what she had done. She had ruined not just my life, but my three brothers’ and sister’s lives also. It was too late to try to undo the damage. The garbage truck had already pulled away hours earlier from 110 Flamingo Street and, along with it, all of our most prized possessions.

Tax drooling time

Fred warned me for an entire year this would happen. Did I listen to him? Nope, and now I’m paying the price.
It’s tax time again, and the next few weeks will be spent by yours truly pulling out his hair — at least whatever is left that Little One hasn’t gotten a hold of.
