What next after Boston?

Cal Thomas's picture

The last time there was a terrorist attack on America, we got the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.

Each entity has spent billions to keep us safe, but neither could stop two brothers, Tamerlan, a permanent resident, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a newly minted U.S. citizen, who lived in America and, reportedly, became radicalized jihadists, from killing and maiming innocent people at the Boston Marathon last week.

According to Dana Priest and William M. Arkin of The Washington Post, “Some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies work on programs related to counterterrorism, homeland security and intelligence in about 10,000 locations across the United States. ... An estimated 854,000 people, nearly 1.5 times as many people as live in Washington, D.C., hold top-secret security clearances. ... In Washington and the surrounding area, 33 building complexes for top-secret intelligence work are under construction or have been built since September 2001. Together they occupy the equivalent of almost three Pentagons or 22 U.S. Capitol buildings — about 17 million square feet of space.”

All of that failed to prevent the Boston bombings. The massive manpower, sophisticated equipment and money could not stop the Tsarnaevs from constructing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), including “pressure cooker” bombs.

Despite a domestic army of federal, state and local forces, the suspects managed to evade capture for days until Tamerlan was killed in a shootout and David Henneberry, a Watertown resident, found Dzhokhar hiding in his boat in his backyard. Henneberry called 911 and the wounded suspect was taken into custody.

The media have reported on the backgrounds of the two men. The FBI interviewed the older brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan, at the request of a foreign government, probably Russia, which expressed concern about his ties to Chechen extremists. The FBI, reportedly, could do nothing about Tamerlan under current U.S. law because there was no direct evidence of a terrorist plot.

How much confidence should Americans have in their government for keeping us safe when two young men can wreak havoc, shutting down a major city?

One thing the U.S. government should decide is whether or not to allow people into America from countries where radical Islam and “jihad” are taught. The hope has been that letting them live here would lead them to become more like us, more accepting of our way of life.

In fact, their stay in America seems to have reinforced a radical brand of religion and its worldview that are intended to destroy countries like America whose freedoms and “libertinism” they despise.

The UK Daily Mirror reported Sunday that the FBI was hunting a 12-member “sleeper cell” they say is linked to the Tsarnaev brothers. Quoting a source close to the investigation, the Mirror reported, “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.”

More must also be done to curtail the admission of radical imams and the construction of mosques and Islamic schools where hatred of America, Jews and Christians is preached and taught.

How many sleeper cells are there in America? They must be found and dismantled. As offensive as this may be to some sensibilities, it is either that, or the offense of more terrorist attacks by people who hate us and are willing to die in the pursuit of goals they believe are dictated by their god.

How many more Americans must be killed and wounded before we fight back, not just overseas, but here? Our enemies are fighting us here. It’s our country, not theirs. We must fight for it.

Osama bin Laden’s announced intention was to conduct a “war of a thousand cuts” against America to harm our economy and permanently change our way of life. If he can see from Hell, he must be pleased about the way things are going.

of the facts of the scribblings of the terrorist inside the boat in the back yard in Watertown, Ma.

Gov. Patrick already knew what it said when he lied to the press afterwards. Just like Obama on Benghazi, he lied to the citizens of Ma. and to the country.

Read Howie Carr's short column below today, from the Boston Herald. Best buddies, Patrick and Obama. Lie and deny, that is their motto.

Either that or Homeland Security - after Big Sis becomes the AG. Either way Prezbo is going to have to cut Holder loose to save his own job. If Deval diverts his flight back from Ireland to Washington DC today, you will know something is up. Might take Valerie Jarrett a week or so to get on board with this, so it may be delayed, but believe me - Holder is going under the bus on the AP thing.

And Deval is an old Chicago Obama buddy and he needs a new gig, so that's going to happen. Hope it happens soon because the special election will be Scott Brown's unless Weld comes back.

Live free or die!

Speaking of those two, catch this "item" in the press in Boston the other day. Hint: Don't eat a heavy meal before reading, might make you nauseous.

Scott Brown is right in just sitting back to see how things play out. He could be handed the governor seat on a silver platter.

Robert W. Morgan's picture

Weld has to be flashing back to Hillary in her bellbottoms and Coke bottle glasses - vision of the perfect 70's radical. Of course we get to see that everyday on mudcat's avitar.

I do think Brown can be Governor. They are all in a tizzy up there with the special election to replace Kerry and the Dem that wins will be off the table and the Repub that loses will have been beaten up and badly discredited by the Dem's attacks and not marketable for Governor.

Or the reverse could be true - Repub Navy Seal wins and lifer establishment Dem loses. Either way is fine since it means both teams playing with the second string and Brown comes in above the fray. Perfect scenario for Brown - a second special election during the Dems long hot summer grilling in Washington.

Be nice if this firestorm extends in 2014 and the Dems lose control of the Senate.

Apologies to those that saw Brown and Governor in the same sentence and choked on something. We are simply talking about Scott Brown in Mass. - nothing local.

Live free or die!

Dated for a while too. Talk about your real odd pairings. James Carville and Mary Matalin successfully can do it, so who knows?

that is the one every voter in the country should never forget. The very beginning of my many, many reasons for never trusting a word she says.

What difference does it make now? LOL

20 years since he died. We now have good ol Rep. Lyn Westmoreland on the committee hearing the classified Benghazi testimony as of yesterday. Fifteen months of hearings and nothing.

Yep, with that record of no consequence for her actions, I am sure good old Hill sits back every evening with a glass of vino in her hand and just bellows those words to anyone within earshot.

For anyone who has followed this maroon of a governor in our most liberal state, read what his "leadership" was during and after the bombing in Boston.

Note how he says it "worked out in the end because we found him". They didn't find him. A single homeowner with a boat in his backyard found him.

What a family unit. What an addition to the cultural diversity of the good old U S of A. Bring those immigrants in, encourage assimilation and let them spend the rest of their lives at Club Fed.

An update on the Tsarnaev family unit, 6 months later.

And let's not forget about America's most favorite uncle and his mooching sister. (Eyes rolling)

heaven, yup.

That's right moe, the uncle was granted a green card by an immigration judge today (no surprise). It dozen't matter that he or his sister failed to heed an earlier court order to leave and stayed illegally in the US.

But hey, the president said we are a nation of laws. (eyes rolling)

3 hours ago I saw this story on the Boston Herald website. I almost posted it here, but I am so sick of the O stories every single day on the news, I just couldn't do it. Did you hear this new legal's nephew is going to be on TV every day till the end of the year to push ACA? Legal, illegal, liar, truth dodger, failure to lead prezbo, gosh, what more can we be punished for as a country than the plague of the O's.. Don't answer that. We have 3 more years. I shudder to think what else is coming from this gene pool.

Cyclist's picture

I wonder if he'll have the same demeanor like his halfwit and moocher sister.

I'm going to stop from referring to those that break our immigration laws as illegals immigrates. From this point forward they'll be known as unregistered democrats.

the voter records in Suffolk County, Ma., I'd just betcha a ticket to Kenya that halfwit and sis got to vote their progeny in as el presidente. Registration is not a prerequisite for democrats in Mass. It's a birthright.:)

Now the story changes, again.

Not to mention, Barry's Auntie Zeituni was in the courtroom yesterday, looking resplendent in her taxpayer-paid fur coat.

It might be interesting to investigate the 'gene pool' of some of our current residents.

Some of those pictures sure look a lot like the 'master'. But what does that matter. The color of a man's skin doesn't matter, nor his individual accomplishments - he should be judged by his 'gene' pool.

Interesting concept. Thanks for sharing.

The Germans and Italians were 'welcomed' in the Pasadena, California area after the war. Many towns throughout our country were settled by Germans and Italians. They were our 'enemies' in WWII, and German and Italian war prisoners were interred in the California area. A rather sad fact: German prisoners of war were allowed to eat in southern restaurants - while 'black' ,soldiers were denied service. We do seem to overcome 'hatred' towards others who may have immigrated here or been our war enemies in the past. A good American tradition. We've come a long way since 1960 when we didn't extend such 'tradition' to our citizens with 'black' skin. We should rejoice at our progress - right?
