Megan Colleen Smelley and Wyatt Stanley Martin were married at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church on May 22, 2010. The Rev. Nathan Nix of Dahlonega officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Phil and Bonnie Smelley of Fayetteville and the grandaughter of Peggy G. Freeman of Peachtree City and the late James Thomas McDaniel, and Betty W. Smelley of Atlanta and the late C. A. Smelley Jr. She is a 2005 graduate of Sandy Creek High School and completed her bachelor of science degree in international affairs with highest honors at Georgia Institute of Technology. Read More»

Jordan-Mathis wedding

Richelle Jarrett Jordan and Michael Alan Mathis were married June 24, 2010 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. Pastor Ken Adams conducted the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Wilda Jarrett of Fayetteville. The groom is the son of Judith Mathis and the late Clyde Mathis of Peachtree City.

Wedding rings were presented by the groom’s nephew, Matt Tyler.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Mathis honeymooned in a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and now reside in Fayetteville.

Brewer anniversary

Glenn “Tex” and Jeanne (Fort) Brewer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug 2, 2010. They were married at Christ Church on St. Simons Island on Aug. 2, 1950.

Mr. Brewer is a retired U.S. Navy submarine captain and served 16 years as a councilman on the Fayetteville City Council. Read More»

Serving the bride as maid of honor and matron of honor were the bride’s daughters, Jennifer Swanagan of Athens, Ga., and Christina Swanagan-Blizzard of Fayetteville. The bride was given away by her son Brian Swanagan of Rome, Ga.

Melissa Sue Clanton and Jonathan Robert Hasel were married June 12, 2010, at Thomasville Road Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla. The service was conducted by the Rev. Jerry Thornton and the sand ceremony performed by the Rev. Dennis Rader of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., uncle of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Chuck and Debbie Clanton of Fayetteville. A graduate of Fayette Christian School in Fayetteville, Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. and Florida State University, she is currently a music therapist for Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee. Read More»

Harold E. and Sara Starr Miller will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary July 21, 2010. Mrs. Miller is a Fayetteville native and Mr. Miller has resided in Fayetteville for the past 60-plus years. The couple formerly operated Miller’s Vineyard on Ga. Highway 54 East for more than 30 years.

Celebrating with them will be their children, Doug and Nina Miller, Lyn and Phil Bergen, and Jeanie and Ricky Ponder; their grandchildren, Michelle, Melanie, Brandon, Ben, Eli, and Lars; and one great- grandchild, Paige.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bertke of Peachtree City. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

George and Suzanne Adkisson of Fayetteville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 3, 2010.

They were graduated from Brown High School and were married on July 2, 1960 at West End Baptist Church in Atlanta. They lived in the Metro Atlanta area before moving to Fayetteville in 1987.

George, a graduate of Georgia Tech, is a retired mechanical engineer and Suzanne is a retired church secretary.

They have three children, Iris (John Harris), Matthew (deceased) and Steve (Joy); and five grandchildren, Phillip and George Harris, and Keeley, Alanna, and Amelia Adkisson.
