SouthCrest & NURA join for volunteer day

The city of Newnan Urban Redevelopment Authority (NURA) will partner with students and life group members from SouthCrest Church in a Volunteer Day on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The area of focus will be the Housing Authority’s Charlie Neal Homes complex located off Boone Drive.
Efforts will include yard work, landscaping, painting, trash collection and other activities designed to physically improve the area.
The NURA works closely with the Housing Authority of Newnan to make improvements within their redevelopment area. Read More»

Scouts tour Senoia

The Senoia Area Historical Society will host a history walk of Main Street Senoia for the Coweta Charter School Boy Scouts on Monday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. The scouts and leader, Aaron Buck, will meet museum representative Hal Sewell who was once a young boy scout in Senoia. Sewell will conduct a walking tour about the town’s historical heritage.

NAACP speaker: Keep working to overcome ‘dream haters’

The keynote speaker for the 17th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet sponsored by the Fayette County Branch of the of the NAACP held Oct. 25 was radio personality, community activist and former Atlanta City Councilman Derrick Boazman.

Boazman in speaking about the lawsuit on district voting said Fayette is a county where the NAACP had to file suit to get equity and a level playing field.

“We’ve come all the way from Carver Homes (where Boazman lived as a child) to Aberdeen Parkway,” Boazman said. Read More»

JC & Lena Weston's 50th Anniversary

JC and Lena Weston

JC (John) and Lena Weston celebrated their 50th Anniversary with family and friends October 11th at the Historic Train Depot in downtown Fayetteville.  The two were married in Fayetteville in 1964, which is where they have continued to reside.

Both are active members of the North Peachtree congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. JC continues to work as a construction contractor however; most days are now spent enjoying some of Fayetteville’s finest fishing ponds.  Read More»

The bride-to-be is is the granddaughter of Weldon and Betsy Franklin of Dallas, Texas and the late Frank McArdle, of Duxbury, Massachusetts and Joanne McArdle of Pembroke, Massachusetts.

Children from Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will Trick-or-Treat at Heritage of Peachtree Assisted Living on Oct. 29. They will also participate in “reverse” Trick-or-Treating when they take to the residents bags of candy they have collected. On Nov. 2 many of the children will bring a “tithe” of their Halloween candy to church give to needy persons. Hopewell’s Fall Festival is tonight
Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will host a Fall Festival  tonight, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The festival will feature “Touch the Truck,” with fire trucks, trash trucks, and other vehicles, as well as Face Painting/Tattoo Station, Bouncy Castle, Decorate a Pumpkin, Mummy Wrap, and a costume contest with prizes for ages 3-12. Hot dogs, snacks and  Trick or Treat candy will be available.  The church is at 351 Jenkins Rd., directly across from Sandy Creek High. For more information call 770-306-7537.

Hopewell UMC to host Fisher for book signing tomorrow

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will host a book signing and talk by Rosemary Fisher, author of the newly published book “The Smokin’ Hot Bride of Christ.” The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

The subtitle of the book is “Rapture Ready” and the book is about “ ... preparing your mind, body and spirit for His glorious return.”

The book is based on scripture from Corinthians and is appropriate for both men and women. Read More»
