Colwell appointed to Post 2 school board seat

Former Fayette County School System interim Superintendent Dan Colwell has been appointed to the District 2 seat by the Fayette County Board of Eduction.

A Monday afternoon meeting saw Colwell appointed on a 2-0 vote. Board members Bob Todd and Marion Key voted in favor of the motion while board member Leonard Presberg abstained.

The Fayette Visioning Initiative is a good idea, one that should be provided with a financial contribution. That was the May 5 opinion of the Fayette County Board of Education.

Comments by the school board in response to an April 30 letter from the Fayette Visioning Initiative asking for a consideration of support had board members favoring such a move.

An audience of 50 people on April 15 heard from the four Republican candidates running for the District 4 seat on the Fayette County Board of Education. The candidates fielded questions on problems facing the school system, their position on the Common Core standards, their prior board experience, management style and problem resolution approach and their position on district voting.

Let’s sell the abandoned Brooks and Tyrone elementary school properties and build a $3.5 million bus barn next to Whitewater High School.

The district voting lawsuit filed by the National NAACP will turn out to be a costly one for local taxpayers, and it’s not over yet, as appeals are being filed seeking to overturn the ruling.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is seeking nearly $850,000 in attorneys fees and costs for its share of the litigation, according to a court filing late last week. Fayette school board extends deadline for vacant post applications

The Fayette County Board of Education has extended the deadline for those wishing nto be considered for the Post 2 seat recently vacated by board member Mary Kay Bacallao.

The former deadline of April 11 had been changed to April 14 at 10 a.m. for applicants to submit their letters of interest and resumes to apply for appointment to the Post 2 vacancy on the Fayette County Board of Education. The individual appointed to Post 2 will fill the remainder of the term left on the seat, which expires December 31, 2016.
