Health insurance ‘choice’ bill passes House

Another bill would ban texting while driving, and all cellphone use by youngest drivers

A bill that would increase consumer choice for health insurance plans was passed by the Georgia House of Representatives Friday.
Also passing the House on “Crossover Day” was a bill that would ban text messaging while driving for drivers of all ages, in addition to a full ban on all cellphone use while driving for those under 18 years old.

By passing before the end-of-Friday deadline, both bills can be taken up in time for potential passage by the Senate before the legislative term ends. Read More»

Parking lot at All Children's Playground to be closed Tuesday

The parking lot at Picnic Park/All Children’s Playground will be closed on Tuesday, March 30, for additional repairs to the sanitary sewer line.

The park will remain open, and visitors may park behind city hall and at the library to access the park via the creek bridge during the repairs.

Senate to school systems: absorb employee furlough days

The Georgia Senate late Friday passed a bill that prevents school systems with more than six percent of their operations budget in a reserve funds account from imposing additional furlough days on school system employees prior to June 30. But for schools systems like Fayette County the law, if enacted, may not apply since the Fayette School System does not maintain an officially designated reserve account. Read More»
