PTC Council eyes bigger slice of hotel-motel tax

Today, if you check into a motel, hotel or conference center in Peachtree City, on top of your room bill you will pay a 6 percent lodging tax.

Commission approves access road to new Lake McIntosh dam

The Fayette County Commission at a special called meeting Dec. 29 voted 4-1 on a resolution that allows for the acquisition of property that will essentially follow the extension of TDK Boulevard for use as an access road to the Lake McIntosh dam.

The vote to acquire the property gives the county the ability to negotiate with Peachtree City and Pathway Communities, the primary property owners, to acquire the 80-foot right-of-way needed for the access road, commissioners said. McCarty, Brown propose term limits for county commission

They were just sworn in last week and will not attend their first Fayette County Commission meeting until 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5. But commissioners Allen McCarty and Steve Brown have inserted an item in the agenda that — if approved by a majority vote of the board — would impose terms limits on board members and another that would require a 24-hour public notice on issues that would require a board vote.

On the topic of term limits, Brown in a weekend email said he and McCarty included an item on the Jan. 5 agenda that would limit the service of commissioners to two consecutive terms. Read More»

F’ville to look at business taxes, trespass violations

The Fayetteville City Council at its Jan. 6 meeting will consider a state initiative designed to have the state and cities work together to collect all business tax that are due. The council will also hear the first reading of an ordinance that will put trespassing violations under city court jurisdiction.

City staff are recommending that Fayetteville participate in an initiative by the Georgia Dept. of Revenue (DOR) and the Georgia Municipal Association aimed at collecting all the sales tax due state and local governments. Read More»

PTC to loosen tree requirements

Thursday night the Peachtree City Council is expected to consider a change that will loosen requirements for residents to get a tree removal permit.
Under the current ordinance, a resident seeking to cut down any tree of any size is required to get a tree removal permit from the city. The change would limit the permit requirement to only those trees that are defined as “protected or specimen trees” under city ordinance. Read More»

Coweta commissioners initiate look at pay increase

Outgoing Coweta County Commissioner Randolph Collins earlier this month surfaced the idea of increasing the pay for commissioners and tying it to a 10 percent of the salary earned by Superior Court judges. The caveat on his motion approved by a 3-2 vote was that, if subsequently approved the General Assembly, the measure would not take effect until 2015 after the terms of all serving commissioners had expired. PTC has 71 apply for city manager job

Peachtree City has received 71 applications from across the country for its vacant city manager position, according to interim City Manager Nikki Vrana.

Those applications are being narrowed down by a committee that includes Vrana, the city attorney, the city’s human resources administrator and also Tom Hall, the city manager from LaGrange.

The committee plans to do interviews the week of Jan. 10 with the “short list” of candidates, Vrana said. Then the committee will narrow the field to about four candidates, she added. Read More»
