'Songman' pays tribute to John Denver

Singalong night with classics

James Sennett, “The Songman,” will perform John Denver classics in Newnan on Feb. 6.

Sennett bills the night as “a celebration of the work of this iconic musician who was an integral part of American music in my teen years.”

He will perform “Rocky Mountain High, Take Me Home, Country Roads, Annie's Song, Back Home Again” and more. “And, of course, singing along is allowed and encouraged,” Sennett said.

Sennett will perform from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Leaf and Bean.

Local artists hosting 'Valentine Social'

Experience their art, create some, too

The art group, AM Productions, is hosting a “Valentine Social” featuring the work of members and the opportunity for couples to make their own art at craft stations.

The elegant event includes dinner catered by one of the group’s culinary artists, live musical entertainment, and a stand-up comedian. Couples who attend the event will create homemade gifts for one another.

Young golfers invited to tournament

Two-day, 36-hole event in Louisiana

Fayette County junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour (AJGT) Beaver Creek Spring Junior Classic in Zachary, LA at the Beaver Creek Golf Club.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament is set for Feb. 21- 22 and is ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, and hosted by AJGT.

The tournament entry fee is $185.00 and includes two days of green fees, tee gifts, and trophies in four age divisions

'Trinity Trail Walk/Run' to benefit teens

The Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s 2015 Trinity Trail 5K/2K Walk/Run is set for Feb. 28 at 8 a.m.

The event begins at Holy Trinity, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City.

Participants should pay their $25 registration at the church’s Faith Formation Office. Proceeds will benefit a group of teens who will attend summer camps, retreats or mission trips during the upcoming summer.

County employee artwork display is first in new gallery

Coweta County will begin featuring artwork in the main entrance of the Administration Building on Feb. 2.

The display will be known as Coweta Arts and will begin by featuring the work of county employees who are also artists. The gallery will be opened to community artists at a later day.

The inaugural showing features artist Sharon Kolbuss who has worked in the Probate Court since September 2014.

She works with pen and ink and her works feature stippling, or pointillism, and crosshatching.

A rose by any other name would still need pruning

Learn how to prune with experts

The South Metro Rose Society, a local affiliate of the American Rose Society, is hosting its annual rose pruning clinic in February and inviting the public to attend free of charge.

The workshop is set for Saturday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Heritage Bank rose garden, 440 N. Jeff Davis Dr. in Fayetteville. In case of rain, the workshop will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.

Attendees will gain valuable hands-on experience in rose pruning as well as answers to any rose-growing questions. Read More»

'Pajama Game' auditions are Jan. 27, Feb. 1

Performances set for May

Auditions for The Georgia Singers’ performance of “The Pajama Games” is Jan. 27 and Feb. 1.

Those auditioning should be ready to sing about 60 seconds of a Broadway song with accompaniment. A speaker for phones, MP3 players and CDs will be provided.

Also included is a short, movement audition and a cold read from the script.

Auditions are at the Peachtree City School of Dance, 113 Peachtree Court in Fayetteville, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 1.

Run for angels in Newnan

Proceeds benefit children's shelter

Newnan's annual “Run for Angels and Chicken Q” is scheduled for Feb.7 with the run beginning at 8 a.m. and the eating at 11 a.m.

The fun begins and ends in historic downtown Newnan on Greenville Street between Salbide Avenue and Savannah Street.

The 13th Annual 5K/10K road race and one mile fun run will benefit Angel’s House, a temporary shelter for children in Coweta County who are awaiting placement in foster homes.

The 5K and 10K courses are certified as Peachtree Road Race qualifiers. Prizes will be awarded to the “Best Wings” themed costumed child, adult and group. Read More»

Sandy Creek Chamber Choir to perform at Spivey Hall

A free High School Choral Festival that includes students from Fayette County is being presented by the Clayton State University Department of Visual and Performing Arts Division of Music at the renowned Spivey Hall.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m.

The festival will combine four area high school ensembles -- Fayette County's Sandy Creek High School Chamber Choir, Tri Cities High School Concert Chorale, Osbourne High Chamber Singers and the Spalding High School Chorus -- along with the Clayton State University Chorale. Read More»
