Heritage Christian omits VBS to host ‘Summer Nights’ in July

Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville invites families in the community to Summer Nights on Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, and 31. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the indoor drama begins at 7 p.m.

Each evening, families are encouraged to bring their picnic blanket and sit together for the indoor show, which will include hilarious skits, high energy music, a family game show, and interactive Bible stories.

Mr. Lowry, you are entitled to your opinion, but it one with which I strongly disagree.

You are correct that at-large voting has been in Fayette County for 191 years; I am of the opinion that it has worked well and afforded every registered county voter the right to influence every countywide election.

So, let’s get down to core of Common Core: ‘Rigor’

I was fortunate to attend a forum at Sam’s Auditorium recently in which a panel of educators and organizers brought the discussion of the pros and cons of the Common Core National Standards. Common Core is here in Georgia, sanctioned by Governor Nathan Deal, which is now mandated to all public schools in this state.

Lost: one purse. Found: one hero

Recently, my newly graduated FCHS daughter was out with friends, stopped at the Raceway gas station for a slushy, and left her purse on the roof of the car and drove off.

The purse did not make it home with her that night.

After discovering her purse was missing, she and her friends immediately started retracing their tracks to find it – no luck.

This Friday, Fayetteville Main Street is hosting its first free “Moovie Night” of 2013 at Southern Ground Amphitheater. Beginning at 7 p.m., families are encouraged to come out for an evening of fun, music, and movies. Bring your own chair or blanket.

Scott Carter, 50, of Fayetteville

Scott Carter, 50, of Fayetteville, Ga., formerly of Alcoa-Maryville, Tenn., passed away on June 9, 2013, following a rip tide current drowning on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
